CANCRYN PUMP STATION OFFLINE DUE TO MECHNICAL ISSUES

(St. Thomas, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the public that the Cancryn pump station is currently offline but undergoing repair. This situation may lead to sewer system issues. VIWMA advises residents to avoid standing water in any affected areas.

VIWMA AND PUBLIC WORKS JOIN FORCES FOR CLEANUPS

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) and the Virgin Islands Department of Public Works are excited to announce that beginning Wednesday, February 12, 2025, they will collaborate to clear litter from heavily affected areas around Hay Penny Beach and the former Elena L. Christian Junior High School.

Cleanup efforts at Estates Bonne Esperance – Meadows and Clifton Hill (behind the solar farms) are scheduled for Wednesday, February 19, 2025.

The community is encouraged to participate in keeping the Virgin Islands clean. Residents can bring their White Goods (such as stoves, dryers, washing machines, refrigerators, and water heaters) to the Anguilla landfill at no cost.

"Littering and illegal dumping have become a significant problem territory wide. Our objective is not just to remove the current waste but also to inform the public about the importance of proper waste disposal. We are confident that with collective efforts and heightened awareness, we can make a meaningful difference in safeguarding our environment for future generations," stated Interim Executive Director, Daryl Griffith.

VIWMA EXTENDS ANGUILLA LANDFILL OPERATIONS SCHEDULE

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) is pleased to inform the community that starting Sunday, February 9, 2025, the Anguilla Landfill will be open on Sundays from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This adjustment is part of VIWMA’s continuous efforts to enhance accessibility and convenience for both residents and businesses. By extending operating hours to include Sundays, we aim to better serve the diverse schedules of our community members and promote more efficient waste disposal.

The community is reminded to adhere to proper waste disposal guidelines to ensure the continued safety and cleanliness of the landfill facility.

The VIWMA remains dedicated to providing reliable services and appreciates the community's ongoing support and understanding.

LAGOON PUMP STATION TEMPORARILY OFF-LINE

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) would like to inform the community that a force main break occurred at the Lagoon Street Pump Station at approximately 9:15 a.m. Sunday, January 19, 2025. The pump station has been temporarily taken offline as repair preparations begin. The replacement of the damaged force main is anticipated to be completed by this weekend.

Motorists and pedestrians are advised to be cautious, as sewage runoff may contain contaminants or pollutants that are harmful to human health. Residents should avoid areas with sewage water runoff including gutters, puddles, manholes, and drainage basins, or any locations that appear discolored or emit foul odors.

We understand the inconvenience this may cause and rely on your cooperation as we work diligently to conduct the essential repairs and restore service.
