The Wastewater User Fee (WUF), formerly known as the Sewer User Fee, funds the operations and maintenance of the Territory’s wastewater collection, treatment and disposal systems and facilities.
The well-being of all Virgin Islanders requires environmentally sound and cost-effective management of the collection, treatment and disposal of wastewater. These measures are also important to the local economy: an extensive and efficient waste management system supports residential, commercial and industrial growth; and natural resource preservation promotes and attracts tourism to the Territory.> Download WUF flyer in PDF formatDownload WUF flyer in PDF format
The WUF fees are assessed on wastewater and are intended to cover the cost for the management of waste by requiring everyone to assist with funding the costs to manage and improve our facilities: that includes that not only residents and business owners, but also visitors to the Territory.
With the WUF, all property owners, residential and commercial, are assessed an annual fee that is billed on the property owner’s tax statement. Previously the WUF had not been increased for more than 20 years despite increasing costs of keeping the wastewater infrastructure running efficiently. A rate increase, effective in 2008, was approved by the Public Service Commission (PSC).
