VIWMA ST. THOMAS FRENCHTOWN SEWER LINE UPDATE
(U.S. Virgin Islands) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) is currently working in the St. Thomas Frenchtown Community/Joseph Aubain Ball Park area clearing sewage lines. During this time, the VIWMA is asking the public to please traverse the area with caution and avoid parking over manholes and grated areas.
The VIWMA continues to remind residents who own businesses in the area to follow the law as it applies to the proper disposal of used cooking oil. It is against the law to dispose of used commercial fats, oils, or grease (FOG) at public bin sites. VIWMA also reminds business owners and residents not to flush wipes, fats, oils and grease in the drain or toilet system. Additionally, VI Code Title 19 Chapter 56 § 1555 (e) and (b) states all businesses producing waste oil must have an authorized permitted hauler to dispose of the used product. Violators are subject to a fine of not less than $1,000 and/ or 180 days imprisonment. To obtain a listing of permitted haulers, private plumbing contractors or to report illegal dumping call the Territorial Manager of Wastewater Operations. Keith Smith at 340-244-4834, 340-712-4962 (St. Croix) or 340-715-9100 (St. Thomas/St. John).
