POWER OUTAGES LEAD TO ODOR EMISSIONS AT THE CRUZ BAY WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

(St. John, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the St. John community of a strong odor in the Cruz Bay area that is being emitted from the Cruz Bay Wastewater Treatment Plant. The odor is a result of the blower at the station being offline from recent power outages, which occurred beginning Sunday, June 27, 2021.

The treatment plant has since resumed operations; however, a residual odor remains which should dissipate within the next 24-48 hours.

The VIWMA apologizes for the temporary inconvenience.
