VIWMA ADVISES COMMUNITY OF OVERFLOWING MANHOLE IN CHRISTIANSTED

 

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community that on Thursday, November 01, 2018 at 9:00am, the LBJ Pump Station went off-line due to mechanical failure of the auxiliary diesel pump. The Authority’s staff is working to repair the pump and bring the station back online.


The Authority advises residents with compromised immune systems to avoid standing water in the vicinity of #1 King Cross and Queen Streets. Motorists are advised to use an alternate route around this potentially impacted area.


Updates on changes that may affect public health and the environment will be provided. The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team apologizes for the inconvenience and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.

VIWMA CONTINUES TO TEMPORARILY NOT ACCEPT GREEN WASTE AT THE ANGUILLA LANDFILL UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

 

(ST. CROIX, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the St. Croix community that green waste will not be accepted at the St. Croix Transfer Station and Anguilla Landfill at this time, as the facility is currently overwhelmed and unable to accommodate additional material. This is due to heavy rainfall and fire mitigation measures. The public and all haulers are asked to continue to hold their green waste until collection resumes on Friday, October 26, 2018.

VIWMA TO TEMPORARILY INCREASE SOLID WASTE COLLECTION BINS ON WATER ISLAND

 

(Water Island, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the Water Island community that effective Friday, November 02, 2018 the Authority will provide 3 additional bins at the solid waste transfer site to assist residents with adequate receptacles for proper trash disposal while Bayside Marine’s barge goes on dry dock for repairs.


Regular trash removal will resume on Friday, November 23, 2018. Residents are advised to help prevent illegal dumping when bins are full by holding waste at home until collection service resumes.
