VIWMA ADVISES FRENCHTOWN COMMUNITY OF UPCOMING SEWER REPAIR WORK ALONG RUE DE CARENAGE 

 

SSt.St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises residents, businesses, motorists, and pedestrians in the Frenchtown area that sewer repair work along Rue De Carenage is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.

 

Due to the nature of the repairs, an estimated completion date is not available at this time. VIWMA will continue to provide updates to the community as work progresses.

 

Traffic impacts associated with the project will include the temporary loss of street-side access for residents of Altona 22 and 23 Crown Prince. Access to the area will remain available throughout the repairs via the Rue De Carenage Loop.

 

No businesses, residences, or essential services are expected to lose access during the project.

 

Residents and businesses in the project area should anticipate temporary construction-related impacts, including increased noise, dust, odors, heavy equipment activity, traffic disruptions, and other temporary inconveniences associated with the work. VIWMA and its contractors will make every effort to minimize these impacts and complete the repairs as safely and efficiently as possible.

 

As a precautionary measure, VIWMA strongly advises residents and pedestrians to avoid contact with any standing water in the affected area.

 

Motorists traveling through the area are urged to exercise caution, reduce their speed, and follow all instructions provided by road crews and on-site traffic control personnel.

 

VIWMA appreciates the patience and cooperation of the Frenchtown community as these necessary repairs are carried out. The Authority remains committed to improving the Territory’s wastewater infrastructure to support safer, more reliable services for the communities we serve. Additional project updates will be provided as work progresses.
