VIWMA RELEASES HOUSE-TO-HOUSE COLLECTIONS SCHEDULES FOR ST. CROIX AND ST. THOMAS

St. Croix/St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Solid Waste Division, together with its contracted waste haulers, provides weekly curbside (House-to-House) residential waste collection throughout St. Croix and St. Thomas. To promote transparency and help residents better understand their service, the Authority is releasing updated collection schedules, neighborhood route assignments, and service provider information.

Residents are encouraged to become familiar with the waste collection service provider assigned to their neighborhood, whether serviced directly by a VIWMA Solid Waste crew or by one of the Authority's contracted haulers. Knowing which service provider serves your area helps improve communication, facilitates timely reporting of missed collections, and strengthens accountability between residents and VIWMA.

Residents may review the updated collection schedules or contact VIWMA to confirm their assigned service provider.

The collection schedules reflect VIWMA's continued commitment to improving operational efficiency, balancing collection routes, and providing dependable waste collection services to residents throughout the Territory.

    Residents are reminded to:

    ·        Place their trash carts at the designated curbside collection point the evening before or on the morning of their scheduled collection day. Collection requirements may vary by service provider and district.

    o   Designated collection areas include:

§  Individual approved trash carts placed at the curbside in front of your home (in neighborhoods that receive HousetoHouse service), or

§  Public trash carts provided by VIWMA in areas that do not receive HousetoHouse collection.

§  Makeshift disposal sites created by residents are not designated collection areas and are considered illegal dumping.

    ·        Ensure carts are easily accessible to collection crews and are not blocked by parked vehicles, utility poles, trees, or other obstructions.

    ·        Ensure trash receptacles are not chained, locked, or secured with zip ties in a way that prevents sanitation workers from removing the trash.

    ·        Use only approved standardized trash carts and ensure all household waste is securely bagged before being placed inside the cart.

As part of VIWMA's ongoing efforts to modernize and standardize solid waste operations, the Authority reminds residents that, effective June 1, 2026, VIWMA and its contracted waste haulers discontinued the collection of household trash that is not securely bagged and placed inside an approved standardized trash cart with a maximum capacity of 64 gallons that meets VIWMA's collection safety requirements.

This policy enhances employee safety, reduces litter and windblown debris, protects public health, and supports more efficient, reliable, and predictable waste collection services across the islands.

VIWMA thanks residents for their continued cooperation and commitment to proper waste disposal as we work together to keep the U.S. Virgin Islands clean, safe, and beautiful for everyone.
