BOVONI LANDFILL FIRE SUCCESSFULLY EXTINGUISHED

(St. (St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the public that the fire reported earlier today, Friday, July 24, 2026, on the working face at the Bovoni Landfill has been fully extinguished. The fire began at approximately 12:30 p.m.

The Virgin Islands Fire and Emergency Medical Services (VIFEMS), along with VIWMA’s contractor and response teams, worked swiftly to suppress the blaze and ensure the area was secured. Normal landfill operations have now resumed.

Residents may continue to travel near the area as usual. VIWMA will provide additional updates if conditions change.
