VIWMA ADVISES OF ACTIVE FIRE AND TEMPORARY CLOSURE AT ANGUILLA LANDFILL

(St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands) — The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) is advising the public of an active fire currently occurring on the southwest side of the working phase at the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix.

In the interest of public safety and to allow emergency personnel and landfill crews to respond appropriately, the landfill will close immediately until further notice.

Residents, commercial haulers, and all landfill users are strongly urged to refrain from accessing the facility during this time. VIWMA personnel are actively monitoring the situation and coordinating response efforts to contain the fire safely and efficiently.

The Authority understands the inconvenience this temporary closure may cause and appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation as response operations continue.

Additional updates regarding landfill operations and reopening schedules will be provided as more information becomes available.
