NEW STREET/QUEEN CROSS STREET INTERSECTION TO CHRISTIANSTED BOARDWALK ASPHALT/PAVING RESTORATION

The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community that on Thursday, December 21, 2023, through Friday, December 29, 2023, our contractor (Marco, St. Croix) will mobilize equipment to begin performing asphalt paving on the excavated trenches (new sewer lines installation) on New Street/Queen Cross Street intersection to the Christiansted Boardwalk.

The paving schedule is as follows:

VIWMA COMMERCIAL TIPPING FEE INCREASE TO BEGIN JANUARY 1, 2024

 

(Virgin Islands) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) announces an increase of the commercial tipping fee to $5.00/cubic yard beginning January 1, 2024.

 

Solid Waste Tipping Fees are mandated by the Virgin Island Public Services Commission and are assessed at solid waste facilities around the world to recover the cost of managing solid waste processing and disposal sites. The VIWMA Tipping Fees are used to help pay for the cost of waste disposal (i.e., operations, equipment purchases, environmental monitoring costs, etc.).

 

Tipping Fees are assessed at the three VIWMA disposal facilities: the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix, the Bovoni Landfill on St. Thomas, and the Susannaberg Transfer Station on St. John.

ST. THOMAS LANDFILL SCRAP METAL FIRE

 

(St. Thomas, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community that the Virgin Islands Fire Department and Virgin Islands Port Authority are still working to extinguish the fire at the scrap metal area. VIWMA advises the public to stay away from the area and the landfill will be closed until further notice due to the proximity of the fire.

 

VIWMA has added additional bins at high-usage sites on St. Thomas and St. John to help residents dispose of their trash until normal operations can resume.We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

UPDATE: ST THOMAS BOVONI LANDFILL

 

 (St. Thomas, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (Authority) announces that the Bovoni Landfill will be open tomorrow from 10 am – 4 pm September 19, 2023, for all government and private haulers with permitted solid waste vehicles (i. e. roll-on, roll-off, rear loaders, etc.). When entering the Landfill premises, please proceed with caution. The Authority thanks the public for their patience.

BOVONI LANDFILL - SCRAP METAL AREA FIRE

 

(St. Thomas, USVI) – The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the community that the Bovoni Landfill will open to VIWMA private haulers on Sunday, July 9, 2023, from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm. These special hours will help eliminate the build-up of trash that occurred due to the closure of the landfill. We expect normal operations to resume at the Bovoni Landfill no later than Tuesday, July 11, 2023.

 

VIWMA would like to thank the Virgin Islands Fire Department, the Virgin Islands Port Authority, and the Government of the Virgin Islands for their assistance with extinguishing the fire at the scrap metal area. Also, we would like to apologize and thank the community for their patience as we dealt with this unfortunate situation.
