VIWMA TO REOPEN CROWN MOUNTAIN BIN SITE

(St. Thomas, USVI) September 21, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the St. Thomas community that the Crown Mountain bin site will reopen for the disposal of household waste on Monday, September 27, 2021.

 

Effective Monday, September 27, 2021, the Shibui bin site will be permanently closed. An additional bin will be placed at the Crown Mountain site to compensate for the Shibui closure.

VIWMA SUSANNABERG TRANSFER STATION WASTE ACCEPTANCE PROTOCOLS

(St. John, USVI) September 17, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises the St. John Community that effective immediately the Susannaberg Transfer Station will be accepting waste from haulers carrying commercial trash. There will be a fee to offset the haulers barge and transportation costs to St. Thomas. In the near future as our capacity expands, we will be accepting Construction and Demolition waste with a similar transportation offset fee.

 

Haulers are defined as individuals operating a business for profit whose vehicle/hauling body transports 5 yards or more of waste material.

 

Haulers using the residential bin sites around the island to illegally dump waste will be fined. Fines may include the following: 1,000 hours of community service, 180 days imprisonment or a maximum fine of $1000.

VIWMA ANNOUNCES ANNUAL HURRICANE CLEAN-UP

(U.S. Virgin Islands) August 31, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises residents that the Annual Hurricane Clean-up will be held Saturday, September 4th and Sunday, September 5th.

 

Additional 20-yard bins will be placed at the below designated locations to accept bulk waste, white goods and household waste.

Bulk waste is defined as large, bulky household items, such as mattresses, furniture, cabinets, shelving, doors, and plywood. White goods include such items as stoves, dryers, washing machines, refrigerators and water heaters. Household waste consists of food scraps, paper, product packaging, clothing, etc.

 

Commercial Waste, Electronic Devices, Fats, Oils and Grease, Green Waste and Hazardous Waste will not be accepted at these sites and must go to the landfills.

 

Seniors and persons with disabilities may call Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. to arrange for special pick-up (limited amounts).

CANCRYN WASTEWATER PUMP STATION SEWER LINE BREAK

(St. Thomas, USVI) September 17, 2021 - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) advises residents that the main 24-inch wastewater sewer line from the Cancryn pump station ruptured at the junction of the Moravian Highway and Judy Gomez Highway (between Pueblo Supermarket and Bellows International).

 

Repairs to the sewer line are scheduled to begin on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, and are expected to be completed by Wednesday, October 6, 2021. Traffic control assistance will be provided by the Department of Public Works and motorists are advised to slow down and heed safety warnings while traversing this intersection.

VIWMA ANNOUNCES LABOR DAY HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

The VIWMA would like to remind St. Thomas residents that metals are not accepted at the Bovoni Landfill on Sundays.
