(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (‘VIWMA” or “Authority”) Preserving Paradise team advises the community of an active fire at the Anguilla Landfill initially reported at 5:30am on Monday, June 17, 2019 and extinguished at 7:30pm.

The fire has since reignited, the Virgin Islands Fire Service and VIWMA contractors are working expeditiously to bring the fire under control. At this time, only household (bin sites) and government waste will be accepted at the St. Croix Transfer Station.

We are asking residents to hold bulky waste at home; the public and all haulers are asked to hold waste until normal operating hours resume. The VIWMA will provide updates on any changes that may affect the public and haulers utilizing the Solid Waste Facilities.

It is recommended that residents with respiratory disorders/conditions shelter in place to minimize exposure to smoke as wind directions change. The Authority will continue to provide updates regarding changes that may affect public health, the environment and haulers utilizing the Transfer Station.

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team apologizes for the inconvenience and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.
