Message from the Executive Director

merritt wiwmaAs Executive Director, I have an open-door policy that fosters teamwork, resourcefulness and respectful interactions for all of our invaluable employees.

My vision for the VIWMA is one that promotes continuous quality improvement and the development of sustainable practices that will preserve the environment and natural beauty of the U.S. Virgin Islands.

VIWMA is committed to fostering strong partnerships within the community by engaging residents in our efforts to keep the islands clean and litter-free. Accountability to the public with an emphasis on compliance and the responsible use of public funds are of the utmost importance.

As a former regulator, I can ensure you the VIWMA is dedicated to addressing the solid waste and wastewater consent orders. In this regard, our efforts are geared toward modernizing our infrastructure and operations.

One of my primary goals is to replace the open bin sites with more convenience centers, which will help to promote  proper waste disposal and the eventual source-separation of recyclable materials for the Territory.

We will live in a cleaner and healthier enviroment going forward by promoting a sense of ownership along with collective and individual responsibility as it pertains to managment of our solid waste and waste water in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
