Waste Management Authority Supports Recycle Month

(Virgin Islands) November 15, 2021- The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) invites the entire community to join us in promoting, protecting, and preserving paradise as we celebrate VI Recycles Month.  The VIWMA Team is hard at work recognizing initiatives to reduce and divert waste away from the landfills while supporting local programs and increasing awareness of consumer behavior on purchasing and disposal methods.

Listen and look out for our public service announcements and social media messages with relevant tips on how you can help. Take the pledge and make a personal commitment for yourself and our future generations.

Did you know that:

  • Adults generate 5 pounds of waste daily, while children generate 2 pounds
  • 80 billion aluminum cans are used each year around the world
  • Plastic bags in the ocean kill 1 million sea creatures a year
  • Every year billions of trees in the form of paper are thrown away
  • America throws away over 25 trillion Styrofoam cups every year

Do your part to help to reduce, reuse, and divert today!
