ANGUILLA LANDFILL REOPENS FOLLOWING BRUSH FIRE

(St. Croix, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community and solid waste haulers of the resumption of operations at the Anguilla Landfill on St. Croix.

The landfill was closed on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at 2:15 pm.; closure was attributed to a brush fire that occurred on the west-side slope of the landfill facing the airport.  It was not caused by solid waste; the brush fire was extinguished by Virgin Islands Fire Service and VIWMA contractors within three (3) hours. The landfill reopened at 5:15 pm the same day.

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise team thanks the community for helping us put safety first; the safety of our employees and contractors is our first priority.  The Authority continues to work diligently to provide service to the public.  For more information, contact the Office of Communications Management at 340-513-4171 or email This email address is being protected from spambots.
