VIWMA BEGINS CLEAN-UP OF COTTON VALLEY BIN SITE

VIWMA  BEGINS CLEAN-UP OF COTTON VALLEY BIN SITE

(ST. CROIX, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the community that clean-up of the Cotton Valley Public Bin Site commenced on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 and is anticipated to conclude Friday, March 15, 2019. The cleanup is a collaborative effort between the Department of Public Works and the Authority.

The cleanup will improve the aesthetics of the site thus minimizing indiscriminate dumping of waste. The bin site is scheduled for upgrade similar to that of the Peter’s Rest Convenience Center on St. Croix and the Mandahl Convenience Center on St. Thomas. This change would afford residents an opportunity to conveniently dispose of household waste at an organized, well-lit and manned facility.

The Authority reminds businesses that only household waste is to be disposed of at public bin sites and that illegal dumping is a crime. Landscaping businesses are required to dispose of green waste at the St. Croix Transfer Station for processing. Persons found in violation of the Territory’s litter laws are subject to a fine of $1,000 and/or 180 days in jail. Residents are also reminded to report illegal dumping by calling our 24-Hour Hotline at 844-WMA-USVI (844-962-8784).

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise Team continues to work diligently to provide reliable services and would like to thank the community for their cooperation and support.
