VIWMA ANGUILLA LANDFILL MULCH FIRE EXTINGUISHED

(ST. CROIX, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the St. Croix community that the Anguilla Landfill fire has been extinguished. The Virgin Islands Fire Service (VIFS), VIWMA contractors and personnel concluded fire suppression activities on Monday, October 15, 2018.

Normal operating hours will resume at the St. Croix Transfer Station and Anguilla Landfill today, Tuesday, October 16, 2018. The Virgin Islands Fire Service, VIWMA contractors and staff continue to monitor the impacted area and will provide updates on changes that may affect the public and haulers utilizing the Solid Waste Facilities.

It is recommended that residents with respiratory disorders/conditions shelter in place to minimize exposure to smoke as wind directions change. The Authority will continue to provide updates that may affect public health and the environment.

The VIWMA would like to thank the VIFS, contractors and staff for their teamwork and commitment to getting the job done. We appreciate your dedication.

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise Team continues to work diligently to provide reliable services and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.
