VIWMA TRANSFER STATION AND LANDFILL ARE TEMPORARILY CLOSED DUE TO POWER OUTAGE

(ST. CROIX, USVI) - The Virgin Islands Waste Management Authority (VIWMA) Preserving Paradise team advises the St. Croix community of the temporary closure of the St. Croix Transfer Station and Landfill due to a power outage caused by lightning strike to a nearby transformer and heavy rainfalls creating a slipping hazard on the face of the landfill.

The Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA) and the Authority are working diligently to resolve the matter.

We are asking residents to hold bulky waste at home; the public and all haulers are asked to hold waste. The Authority anticipates normal operating hours on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

The VIWMA Preserving Paradise Team continues to work diligently to provide reliable services and would like to thank the community for their patience and cooperation.
